The Wire Village School in Spencer, MA asked students to rank the bullies in their school in order to determine who on the list would be punished.

While it’s a good idea in theory, school did not investigate the validity of the survey. A Bully could have said an innocent kid was a bully just to get him in trouble. Additionally, by having a list of bullies, others could retaliate with threats, physical harm or emotional bullying.

And if that list makes the Internet, the bullies could have a difficult time getting into other schools, colleges, finding employment, etc.

We don’t want kids fighting back. We don’t condone what the bullies are doing. Their behavior is unacceptable. If we don't change their behavior now, they could become domestic violence abusers, child abusers, workplace and elder bullies. They could end up in jail.

The goal is to put an end to bullying so victims are no longer tormented and the bullies learn healthy, kind and respecful behavior.

Parents must work with the schools and schools should have anti-bullying and anti-cyberbullying curriculum.
